Hate Cannot Drive Out Hate

I struggled all week with what to write to my Joy Letter subscribers, as I usually send my notes at the beginning of the month (not a subscriber, you can read the note here).

I’ve also been struggling with what to write to you, dear blog reader.

I keep coming back to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Seeing the honeybee on the chive flowers in my garden brought me joy this week

So I’m keeping this short today.

The pink flowers on the lemon scented geranium are so pretty

Sending a message of love. And urging you to ripple the love outward.

The world needs love. It needs beauty, too. Alone they won’t erase racism or the other problems in our society, but love, empathy, listening, understanding — they’ll help us create the foundation of a better world.
