Coleus is a common garden plant. Its colorful leaves bring brightness to shady corners. Like many common plants this one begged me to paint it. The leaves appear almost tie-dyed and make a perfect subject for watercolor.
This delicate original watercolor painting depicts a single colorful stem of coleus. The leaves are mottled rust with green, maroon, amber and brown. The stems are a bright green with rusty red speckles.
This painting captures the beauty of the coleus leaves, but it is also a reminder to slow down and notice the details and beauty of the ordinary. Frame it and hang it where it can whisper its magic to you each day.
