Spent Tulip Watercolor Painting

Spent Tulip Watercolor Painting

In all of nature there is beauty. We often focus on the beauty of flowers when they're fresh and blooming. When flowers are finished blooming there’s a different kind of beauty. Spent flowers. Plants that have gone to seed. The colors are muted, faded. The petals curled and crumpled. And yet, they are full of grace.

This painting depicts a single tulip flower that’s finished flowering. The petals have curled and twisted in an elaborate dance, perhaps even more beautiful than when it was in full bloom.

Framed and hung on your wall this faded tulip will whisper this reminder: there is beauty in the darkest of days; there is beauty in endings; there is beauty in the cycle of life. It would look especially beautiful hung in a group with my other tulip paintings. You can find them here and here.
