Purple Petunias Watercolor Painting

Purple Petunias Watercolor Painting

Like many of the flowers I tend to paint, you may not pay much attention to petunias. Maybe you have some growing in your garden right now. In a hanging basket or a window box. You don't need to worry about petunias. They're bright, colorful and sturdy.

But they have a childlike, old-fashioned charm. The flowers come in so many different colors and they're the perfect shape for visiting bees and hummingbirds. The darker colors look like velvet.

Once I started studying them, I couldn't stop.

This painting depicts a branch of petunias with seven open flowers and one bud. The branch winds itself across the page with the flowers all facing in different directions.

The painting elevates a common plant to highlight its beauty. It is a reminder. A reminder that there is beauty in the ordinary. That there is magic and joy in the everyday. Frame it and hang it on your wall and it will whisper its reminders to you.
