What is the giant strawberry?

One of the first things I did when I embarked on my creative journey was to start a blog. When I began to contemplate the name for it, I thought long and hard about what would be just right, knowing subconsciously that the name would be important not only for my new blog, but also for my developing creative identity. I came up with and discarded many possibilities before remembering a family story about how I got in trouble for telling tall tales in school. According to the story, I told all of my kindergarten classmates about my pet giraffe and the huge strawberry in my backyard, a strawberry as big as the garage.

As I thought about the creative path which I was beginning to follow, I pictured that kindergarten me -- so joyful and artistic and free, able to conjure giraffes and giant strawberries without the adult filter of "truth" -- and realized how much I could learn from her. The more I considered it, the more it seemed that My Giant Strawberry would be the perfect name for my creative adventure. By naming my endeavor after my imagined strawberry, I'm honoring my unfettered childhood creativity. My kindergarten self is with me to this day. She reminds me to strive, everyday, to be joyful, artistic and free.

I hope that I can inspire you to add at least a little bit of childlike wonder to your days, too.
